(Level III) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is a singable-yet-sophisticated arrangement that offers rich voicing, colors and clusters without getting too “out there”; staying true to the mood of the old English carol. The rhythmic interplay of vocal parts frames the melody with a nice, playful “groove” that’s fun to sing as well. SATBB

Swingle Bells X (SBS-13) (Anon.) (Level 2) SSAATTBB, bass and drums. Includes "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "Twas in the Moon of Wintertime," and "Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella." "Swingle Bells X" was commissioned by the Mid-America Singers and I have added it to the already existing "Swingle Bells" medleys. This one mixes Latin, Huron and French carols. I was surprised by how easily they fit together!

Swingle Bells VI (SBS-6) (Trad.) (Level 3) SSAATTBB, synth, bass and drums. "Les anges dans nos campagnes" should have a careful "fusion" of classical and jazz styles. I've arranged "O Tannenbaum" as a duet for baritone and soprano combining the German text with some scat singing. "Bel Astre que j'adore" is a simple arrangement with a soprano solo.

Swingle Bells V (SBS-5) (Trad.) (Level 3) SSAATTBB, synth, bass and drums. The Russian carol "Schedrifka" is known in English as "Carol of the Bells." I've replaced the Russian text with fast-moving scat syllables. "Pastores a Belan" comes from Puerto Rico. It's another of the amazingly beautiful melodies inspired by the events at Bethlehem. "O du fruhliche" harks back to a more traditional choral style.

(Moore/Swingle) (Level 3) SATB and Brass Quintet. This setting of Moore's famous poem was originally written for the Swingle Singers and the Canadian Brass. So that my singing group could perform this work in their own concerts, I transcribed the original version into a version for two SATB choirs. The original version has been recorded by the Canadian Brass and the Elmer Iseler Singers on their "Christmas Album."

O Come, O Come Emmanuel - PDF Download, by Eric Richards The Wassail Song - PDF Download SATB 16 copies, by Jason Heald Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella - PDF Download - SATB with Bass, by Jason Heald
O Come, O Come Emmanuel (8 Brass) (Level 4) A contemporary "concert piece" setting of the familiar Christmas carol intended to feature either wind synthesizer or soprano saxophone (written on Reed I). This piece also requires keyboard synthesizer. The piece opens with an ethereal statement of the hymn by wind synthesizer and keyboard. This statement leads into a "GRP"-style funk groove for the improvisation, which is followed by a fugue for the brass section and a majestic finale featuring the entire group. The symphonic nature of this arrangement requires a fairly mature ensemble comfortable in both jazz and classical idioms.

The melody soon returns over a new harmonic structure which builds to an exciting finish. TTBB w/ Piano

O Holy Night As sung by Eclipse on “It’s Christmas Time” Tight, lush harmonies abound in this contemporary setting of O Holy Night. The build is ever so steady to the last verse and peaks as a mosaic of rhythms and notes suddenly lock together in a tutti section with wide-spread, powerful voicings. A soloist with great emotional grasp is a must. (6-part male) TTBBB A Cappella w/Lead vocal
I Saw Three Ships, by A. Patrick Rose Come All Ye Faithful, by A. Patrick Rose Do You Hear What I Hear?, by A. Patrick Rose

I Saw Three Ships As sung by Eclipse on “It’s Christmas Time” Great opener. Starts big right out of the gate and provides an energized, contemporary pop take on this Christmas classic. Lots of catchy rhythms and inner parts culminate in a quasi-Pop/Gospel style ending. The lead line can be performed by a soloist, multiple soloists trading verses, or a section of the choir. Originally intended to be accompanied with vocal percussion, but drum set or percussion would work great also along with bass guitar doubling or replacing the bass part. (5-part male with improvised) Voc. Perc. TTBB A Capella w/Lead vocal

Come All Ye Faithful As sung by Eclipse on “It’s Christmas Time” Written in a Pop/House-Beat style arrangement, a groovin’ choir is a must. The parts bounce between rhythmic synth-style chunk chords and flowing choral lines. The lead line can be performed by a soloist, multiple soloists trading verses, or a section of the choir. Originally intended to be accompanied with vocal percussion, but drum set or percussion would work great also along with bass guitar doubling or replacing the bass part. (5-part male with improvised Voc. Perc.) TTBB A Cappella w/Lead vocal

Do You Hear What I Hear? As sung by Eclipse on “It’s Christmas Time” A strong rhythmic motif provides the backbone for this contemporary pop style version of the Christmas classic. Flowing, harmonized lines provide counter to heavy, alliterated ostinato rhythms providing a very catchy setting to the Lead line and lyrics. The lead line can be performed by a soloist, multiple soloists trading verses, or a section of the choir. Originally intended to be accompanied with vocal percussion, but drum set or percussion would work great also along with bass guitar doubling or replacing the bass part. (5-part male with improvised Voc. Perc.) . TTBB A Cappella w/Lead vocal
Christmas as a Child, by A. Patrick Rose Hodie Christus Natus Est, by David von Kampen Some Children See Him,by Ron Soderwall

(Level IV) Christmas as a Child As sung by Eclipse on “It’s Christmas Time” A relaxed Christmas ballad featuring contemporary pop styling and backing parts that are sculpted to paint tonal images around the lead line. The lead line can be performed by a soloist, multiple soloists trading verses, or a section of the choir. Originally intended to be accompanied with vocal percussion, but drum set or percussion would work great also along with bass guitar doubling or replacing the bass part. Would also work well without percussion at all. (5-part male with opt. improvised Voc. Perc.) . TTBB A Cappella w/Lead Vocal
