(Level 3) This beautiful a cappella setting of the great Johnny Mandel standard was written for the University of Louisville Vocal Jazz Ensemble and provides an opportunity to feature your female soloist. After a bell tone introduction, the texture gradually develops from unison to full five-voice texture. A change of meter to 3/4 highlights the solo section. The arrangement then returns to 4/4 and soars to an exciting climax before returning to the bell tones that began the tune. This is a great chart to show off your group's unaccompanied chops. The first is an a cappella, four-part, reharmonized mania of the full form. The second section is reminiscent of Swingle Singers approach. The third section is big band influenced and must be kicked like a true horn section. The piece ends with a piano solo and rousing shout chorus incorporating all elements of the arrangement.
