(Level III) This Duke Ellington classic starts off with a big ensemble tutti at a moderately slow swing. The melody is punctuated by interesting ensemble hits and fresh chord substitutions during the bridge. The solo section (Trombone II and Trumpet II) follows in a 12/8 groove until the transition to a 12-bar blues featuring an alto sax solo. It romps through an exciting blues shout chorus before the return of the melody. Recently judged "Five Stars" by Frank Mantooth, Byron Stripling, and Denis DeBlasio at the Elmhurst Jazz Festival in Chicago. 8 Brass

ADRIEN RE is a saxophonist, pianist, composer and arranger. His work credits include the Temptations, Ed Calle, Mel Torme, Burt Bacarach, Rosemary Clooney, Carol Burnett, Tal Farlow, Milt Hinton, Marshal Royal, Butch Miles, Nick Brignola and Johnny Mathis, Kenny Davern and numerous jazz festivals across the country. His group, Pyramid, has opened numerous concerts for Spyro Gyra, Boney James and the Nevelle Brothers. He has performed nightly in clubs throughout New Jersey, Philadelphia, the southern states, Florida and Indiana. His teaching experience includes adjunct professor of woodwinds at Miami-Dade Community College and adjunct professor of jazz studies at Florida Atlantic University. He has been a saxophone clinician at the New of School of the Arts in Miami, FL. Toshiko Akiyoshi and Lew Tabackin recently awarded Re the Outstanding Performance Award, Outstanding Saxophone Performance Award and the Overall Outstanding Performance Award at the 1999 National Collegiate Jazz Competition in Mobile, Alabama. He also took top soloist honors at the Elmhurst/Chicago Jazz Festival where Frank Mantooth, Byron Stripling and Denis DiBlaso critically acclaimed Re's arrangement of Ellington's Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me. Re holds a Bachelor of Arts from Trenton State College and a Masters of Arts from Florida Atlantic University. Currently, he is an assistant instructor of saxophone and doctoral fellow at Ball State University.
