CHAD EBY Saxophonist and composer Chad Eby studied music at Luther College, completing his degree in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas. After graduating from North Texas, Eby completed a Master's Degree in Saxophone Performance from Ohio State University. Extremely active as a composer and arranger, Eby received awards for jazz composition from the Ohio Arts Council in 2003 and the North Carolina Arts Council in 2009. His arrangements and compositions have been performed and recorded by the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, The Dallas Jazz Orchestra, and many other professional and collegiate jazz ensembles. He was commissioned by Bill Charlap in May 2011 to arrange “Cool” from West Side Story for Charlap and vocalist Kurt Elling for a concert at Chicago Symphony Center. In the winter of 2009, he was commissioned by Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center to arrange music for a collaborative performance and subsequent DVD of the Wynton Marsalis Quintet featuring Willie Nelson and Norah Jones. His recent trio recording, Broken Shadows, featuring Steve Haines and Jason Marsalis plus guest appearances by Doug Wamble and Branford Marsalis, was released on the Cellar Live label in November 2009 to critical acclaim. He is currently Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at the Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
