A Freddie Hubbard composition that is a very challenging chart and will push even experienced groups. Commissioned by Folsom High School, this version is based closely on the big band arrangement performed by the Airmen of Note. There are some moments in this chart that are fairly mind-boggling, and a well-rehearsed live performance of it is absolutely sure to impress an audience. The feel is largely a 12/8 funk groove over which the ensemble floats the gorgeous melody. Lots of solo space, including a straight-ahead swing section. KERRY MARSH is the Director of Vocal Jazz at California State University, Sacramento. He received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas. He was the director of the UNT Jazz Singers II and sang in the UNT Jazz Singers under the direction of Paris Rutherford. He also sang for six years in the University of Kansas choirs under the direction of Simon Carrington, a founding member of the acclaimed King's Singers. Kerry was the winner of a 2003 Down Beat Student Music Award for Best College Jazz Arrangement. Marsh is an active vocal jazz clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States; and is a member of IAJE and ASCAP.
