(Level IV) A jazz samba written to feature a solo instrument, originally vibes. Solo parts are provided for C, Bb and Eb instruments. The ending can be extended for open blowing. Horn parts are not particularly demanding, but chord changes offer a challenge to the soloist. 10 Brass

BENNETT FRIEDMAN has been producing big band charts and playing tenor sax in San Francisco jazz venues since the 1960's. Bennett's Variations on a Brazilian Song continues its popularity with California bands. Organizations for which Bennett has written commissioned works include the International Association of Jazz Educators, the University of California and many colleges. Friedman has been a full-time jazz instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College since 1977. He has appeared at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Stanford Jazz Festival. Bennett often performs and records with Bay Area groups.
