Description About the Composer

The Path of Least Resistance (8 Brass) - This colorful chart in 12/8 shows off the entire ensemble, features solo sections for alto saxophone and flugelhorn, and is a great opportunity to bring the vibraphone front and center! Initially based on a simple two bar vamp, the AABA form provides the structure for the melody as well as the alto saxophone solo. The mood change at the beginning of the flugelhorn solo section sets up an epic build and a triumphant finale! Technically demanding but fun to play - pentatonic practice required! Woodwind doubles include flute and bass clarinet. This piece was named a winner in the 2013 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards.
