Description About the Composer

(Level IV) One of Don's most popular charts ever and a major composition. A rich, multi-layered minor tune in a moderately fast 9 meter with plenty of shifting subdivisions. Eventually, everyone gets featured either as a soloist or as a section. A surefire showstopper that winds it all up with a dirty 4/4 blues. Optional trumpet passage up to E7. A Don Ellis Critical Edition. (Critical Editor Nick Di Scala) WW Doubles, 4 Reeds (Reed 1: Sop and Flute, Reed 2: Alto, Reed 3: Tenor & Clarinet, Reed 4: Baritone and Oboe), Solo Trumpet, French Horn, Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Drums 1, 2, 3, & 4, Violin 1 & 2, Viola, and Cello. 6 Brass

5 of 5 Great composition Friday, July 17, 2015
Reviewer: Anonymous Person
The composition is great: variations over 9 in many styles. One of my favorite big band compositions/arrangements. Di Scala's editing includes incredibly useful information; I could not wish for better editing. The rating reflects these features specifically.

My gripe comes with the packaging and paper for the score. The score was bent in order to fit the box. It looks as if the score document were generated electronically (good), printed, and copied (bad) onto glossy paper. Also, as helpful as the binding is, it is not the correct size.
