(8 Brass) (Level 4) A 3/4 meter, straight-eighth chart in the style of Pat Metheny. Engaging introduction is followed by a lyrical melody stated by soprano sax and trumpet. A few meter changes and several complex chords make for an interesting journey. A section of three-part counterpoint introduces the soprano sax solo which is followed by hemiola ensemble figures. Alto 1 doubles soprano.

DOUG BRISTOL is a candidate for the Doctor of Arts degree in Theory and Composition from the University of Northern Colorado where he taught jazz arranging from 1994-96. He earned a bachelor's degree in studio music and jazz at the University of Tennessee and was a graduate teaching assistant in jazz arranging at the University of North Texas. His arrangement of Escape Velocity appears on the 1986 One O'Clock Lab Band album "Live in Australia." He completed his master's degree in trombone performance at Georgia State University in 1988. He is published by UNC Jazz Press, International Trombone Association Press and TAP Music. Mr. Bristol is currently on the faculty of Alabama State University where he teaches courses in music theory, sightsinging/ear training, music technology and applied low brass.
