Description About the Composer

(8 Brass) Based loosely on a traditional Bulgarian round dance. The meter throughout is 11/8, although the subdivision within each measure changes, most commonly dividing the eigth notes in groupings of 4+4+3 or 4+3+4. Toward the end of the piece the ensemble breaks into song, singing joyously in Bulgarian. Top four woodwinds double on Flute and/or Clarinet and Trombone 4 may optionally double on Tuba. The percussion part features a number of orchestral percussion instruments.
