(Level 4) Deck the Hall, by Greg Murai is a fast and clever treatment of this fun holiday favorite. As the rhythm section lays down an up-tempo swing in 3, the vocals float above in a two-feel. Then there’s a brief excursion into 5 before arriving at a pretty jazz-waltz melody on the syllables “fa la la.” Harmonically contemporary sounding, this arrangement will round out a vocal-jazz holiday program beautifully.
