The Story of the Mad Hatter - The Story of the Mad Hatter is both a character piece, and an imagining of folk tales of the famous character from Alice in Wonderland. This piece was commissioned for the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Lab Band 1 as part of a project entitled “An Electric Wonderland”. Story of the Mad Hatter features tenor saxophone and guitar in two contrasting solo sections. Zach Rich is a composer, trombonist, and educator from Wichita, Kansas. Based in northern Colorado, he writes for and performs with many ensembles in the Front Range area. His writing has received awards and recognition from organizations such as the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers (ISJAC), the New York Youth Symphony, ASCAP, the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC), and the Jazz Education Network (JEN). His first album as a bandleader, "Boundless", is scheduled for release later in 2019.
