(Level IV) This is a chart for flashy soloing. It uses simple diatonic chord changes (albeit in a number of keys), and it moves at a rapid pace (MM=260). Jazz or rock tones will work equally well for the soloists. There are some double- and triple stops and full chords, but they are all manageable, and all in whole notes. Guitar 5 is largely a rhythm part; all the voicings are written out.To allow for two soloists, take the DS from bar 201 back to bar 75; the first and second parts swap roles, and their parts are essentially duplicates for that stretch of the chart. The section at m210 is call-and-response; if the players hear and feel the responses in a dotted eighth note rhythm, it will become clear. Timing is crucial. 5 Guitars, Bass & Drums

After seeing the Beatles lip-sync Hey Jude on The Ed Sullivan Show, KEVIN BRUNKHORST begged enough to get his first guitar for Christmas at age 9. Later, he took clarinet lessons and played in the school concert band. After high school, he attended the Uiversity of North Texas where he studied jazz guitar with Jack Petersen and earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition in 1987. He then worked for eight years in the music industry. In 2001, went back to the University of North Texas. He spent two years in the famous One O'Clock Lab Band which recorded two of his charts. He also directed the L-5 Electric Guitar Ensemble. Upon earning a Master of Music in Jazz Studies in 2004 from UNT, Kevin was hired by St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where he teaches jazz guitar, arranging, composition and music technology as well as directing two guitar ensembles.
