(8 Brass) An excellent concert piece with a contemporary, even-eighth-note feel and progressive harmony. The piece builds with frenzied passages over a bass-pedal figure climaxing with a nod to Jimi Hendrix. The altos and tenors double on flute (optional non-doubling parts for the tenors are included) and the solo changes are in the lead trumpet part. Arranged for 5 saxes, 8 brass, piano, bass, guitar and drums.

DR. GREGG AKKERMAN is Director of Jazz Studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate where he leads the jazz ensembles and teaches jazz history, improvisation, jazz theory, music business and jazz piano. Gregg earned his Doctor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition with a Secondary Emphasis in Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado while both his BA and MM degrees were earned from San Diego State University. Gregg has long performed as a professional keyboardist, sharing the stage with artists such as Bob Brookmeyer, Kenny Burrell, Kevin Mahogany, Byron Stripling, Pete Christlieb, Tiger Okoshi and the Chieftains. An active arranger, composer and educator, Gregg has several works published by UNC Jazz Press and his articles have appeared in the Jazz Education Journal.
