This traditional English folk song is given a haunting treatment as the voices begin with stark simplicity, build into soaring, lush harmonies and finally end with a whispering refrain. Especially effective for the mood of the piece is the use of the Celtic harp and soprano recorder, but piano and piccolo, or even a digital keyboard on a harp/recorder setting will do admirably. Electric bass may substitute for double bass as well.

KIM COLLINS, a Kansas native, received a degree in music theory from the University of Kansas in 1978. Active in close harmony singing since childhood, he made jazz vocal arranging his emphasis starting in college. Kim has arranged and composed for numerous vocal groups both professional and amateur, and for his own ensembles at Santa Barbara City College where he is an instructor of vocal and instrumental jazz. Recently, the publisher, Four J's Music, chose his lyrics to accompany music by the late Harry Warren. Kim is currently the Director of Vocal Point, a 12-voice select ensemble that performs both public concerts and educational programs for southern California schools. He is also active on the local music scene as a performer on both bass and voice, composer, arranger, session player and singer, voice-over artist, teacher, clinician, consultant and church music director.
