Description About the Composer

(8 Brass) Movement II is a lyrical feature for soprano voice and flugelhorn delivered with an ECM, straight-8ths groove (contemporary jazz harmony, but tonal and luscious). It is all development and improvised solos until the singer provides the expostion with two choruses of lyrics at the end of the piece. The cross-section textural writing in the flugels and woodwinds make this a V. Thematic material from other movements serve as backgrounds and counter themes. Like all the movements in the Miami Suite, Tell Me Your Stories is doubly designed to be a stand-alone piece or to serve as the second movement. Reed I - Alto Sax/Flute, Reed II - Soprano Sax, Reed III/IV - Clarinet/Tenor, Reed V - Bass Clarinet/Clarinet/Bari. Trumpets/Flugelhorns. Recorded by the University of Miami's Concert Jazz Band on Jentsch's Miami Suite CD. A trio version is available on Jentsch's Media Event CD ([email protected]).
