Description About the Composer

(Level IV) IN A BIG WAY Commissioned by the Westwinds Music Society (Calgary, Alberta), and recorded by the Dan Gailey Jazz Orchestra on their OA2 Records release "What Did You Dream?" is a medium shuffle blues in the Kansas City tradition with updated harmony. The chart features tenor and bari saxes on the melody and altos/trumpets on the counter-melody. Solos for bari sax and trombone are followed by a fugue-like ensemble soli and a trumpet solo then leads into the contemporary-sounding shout section. Lead trumpet to high written E-flat. (8 brass)
