Although the melody of this great composition is never literally stated from beginning to end, every musical idea in the chart is based directly on some element of the tune. The arrangement often deals with conversation between instruments, sometimes several at once. It also beings with a whiper and the last chord is definitely a "NOT"!!! Alto 2 doubles flute and tenor 1 doubles clarinet.

DAVID CUTLER is a composer with big ears who listen to all types of music without prejudice. His enormously eclectic output reflects his large musical world. Many of his compositions refer to the sounds that surround him. However, they are far from simple imitations. Instead, these works are impressions of the music hears, or commentary on them. All of his music attempts to connect with the people who listen, though much of it pushes musical and performance boundaries, aiming to challenge as well as delight the audience. He studied piano at the University of Miami (BM), composition at the Hochschule fur Musik in Vienna, Austria, jazz arranging and compositon at the Eastman School of Music (MM) and at Indiana University, where he was awrded his doctorate in composition in Spring, 2003. He balances a career of composing, arranging, teaching, performing and writing about music. His compositons have been performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia by artists and ensembles such as Joe Henderson, Benny Golson, Nancy Wilson, Kenny Wheeler, harpist Jung, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Korean Chamber Ensemble, LAVIE Singers, Eastman Studio Orchestra and Duquesne Symphony Orhcestra. He currenlty serves on the faculties of Duquesne University where he teaches musicianship, composition and jazz, and the Brevard Summer Music Festival, where he is the founding director of the Center for Composition and Contemporary Music (CCCM) and chair of the composition program.
