(8 Brass) This composition was written for the Johns Hopkins University Jazz Ensemble. A challenging and intense work, it includes aleatoric sections based on Morse code, a fast 3/4 section with occasional 2/4's and an open pedal point blowing section. Solos for 2nd trumpet (opt. flugelhorn) and 1st Tenor. 5 saxes (AATTB), 8 Brass, 4 Rhythm.

MATTHEW BELZER is the Jazz Department Chair of the Preparatory Division of the Peabody Institute and the Director of Homewood Jazz Ensembles at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Having been performed throughout the U.S., Germany and Japan, his compositions and arrangements have been honored by Downbeat Magazine and the Jazz Composers' Alliance. He received Master of Music and Bachelor of Music Degrees from the Eastman School of Music where his teachers inlcuded Ramon Ricker, Fred Sturm and Bill Dobbins.
