Description About the Composer
(Level IV) So Many Stars This magical Sergio Mendes tune is for female vocalist and features lush woodwind doubles and muted brass ensembles. Bass clarinet doubles the bass in a unifying theme. The solo section can be played by piano or guitar but can also work with trombone (as on the recording). A catchy soli with vocal doubling in “Brazilian” scat syllables recalls the classic sounds of 1960’s bossa nova, morphing into a screaming climax. The final 7/4 vamp features swirling fugal figures with plenty of scatting room for the vocalist. Lead trumpet up to written F and lead trombone up to C. Recorded by the Jazz Knights, featuring vocalist SSG Alexis Cole, on Turning Points. 8 Brass
