STEWART FISCHER is a graduate of Army Service Forces Bands where he served with honor for three years during World War II. Six months of that time was spent at the Band Training Unit at Ft. Lee, VA. where instructors such as Gil Evans and Sandy Seiglestein presided. Territory bands of Teddy Philips, Lee Williams, Little John Beecher, Joe Vera and others became the outlet for his arranging and compositional skills throughout the late 40's and 50's. Under the G.I. Bill, he studied trumpet with Dan Tetslaff, orchestration with Wm. Muelbe (of the Minneapolis Symphony), tonal materials with Jack Nowiki (Hindemith, Shillinger and 20th Century Counterpoint with Earnst Kreneck. Arriving in Los Angeles in 1959, the next six years were spent in ghost arranging, music preparation and union contracting. Returning to school for his teaching credential brought Mr. Fischer to College of the Canyons in Valencia, CA where he has been a jazz studies instructor for the last 26 years.
