Description About the Composer

Fortune's Fool - Romeo and Juliet Project - (Level IV) - An original composition inspired by the wedding of Romeo and Juliet (part of the University of Northern Colorado's Romeo and Juliet Project). Fortune’s Fool captures the tense drama leading up to and including the duels between Mercutio and Tybalt, and later Tybalt and Romeo. The introduction represents the foreboding nature of fate and fortune before these conflicts happen. The first duel is reflected in the intense guitar solo against a dissonant ensemble backdrop. The second is captured in a trumpet solo over irregular phrases in the rhythm section. This piece concludes with Romeo’s recognition of the cruelty of fortune, as even though he has married his love, the events have made him a fool. (8 Brass)
