(Level III) Rio Relay is an up tempo bossa in the key of Bb. The melody is tossed back and forth between the brass and reeds eventually featuring solos for alto 1 and drums. The piece also features a contrapuntal stop time section followed by a brief shout chorus. Large Jazz Ensemble

BRIAN O'FLAGERTY started his writing at the Stan Kenton Clinic as a student of Robert Curnow, continuting his education at Northwestern University band camp studying with Cliff Colnot and Don Owens. While attending Roosevelt University he was a compostions student of Robert Lombardo and won the Oliver Ditson award for composition while also composing and arranging for Roosevelt's Jazz Ensemble. While doing his graduate work at Northern Illinois Univeristy, he won a Downbeat DeeBee Award for best instrumental arrangement at the college level. he as also performed many Broadway shows, jingles, and concerts in New York.
