(4 Brass) This is one of five Joplin arrangements written for small jazz chamber ensemble. It is an advanced arrangement. the trumpet line is occasionally high which should be ideal for advanced high school and college players. Instrumentation: Alto, tenor and baritone saxophone, two trumepts, two trombones and double bass.

EARL L. STEWART, Associate Professor in the Department of Black Studies at the University of California - Santa Barbara, received his Bachlor of Arts in Music Education from Southern University, Baton Rouge, and his Master of Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Composition at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a composer and arranger who specializes in jazz and eclectic styles. His compositions have been performed by Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano, Barbara Conrad; choreographer, Chuck Davis; jazz artists, Jullian Connonball Adderly and Alvin Batiste and actor, Moses Gunn. He has written music for chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra and for smaller media. Dr. Stewart is the author of African American Music: An Introduction. He has published articles on the aesthetic and theoretical significance of African American music, and is currently working on a manuscript dealing with Vernacular Harmony.
