(Level IV) Originally written as a duo piece for myself on alto saxophone and a colleague of mine (David Cutler) on piano. The piece is a musical expression of the spiritual joy that I experience when I "take the next step" in my Christian walk. Compositionally, the piece constantly plays around with a repeated concert G, using varying textures at the same time. The solo sections contain both free elements and written chord progressions. This arrangement was written for the Eastman Jazz Ensemble I and their 1996 Town Hall Concert in New York City. 8 Brass

ALAN D. NEVEU is a native of Portland, Maine. He earned a B.M. in saxophone performance from the University of Southern Maine and an M.M. as a Writing Skills major in the Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media Department at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. While at Eastman, he played in and recorded with the Eastman Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Fred Sturm. Alan also recorded and toured Germany with Dr. Ramon Ricker's Eastman based group, Saxology. He currently resides in Rochester and is teaching at the First Bible Baptist Church School of Music in Greece, NY.
