(Level V) This burning arrangement of the Wayne Shorter tune from Miles Davis' Sorcerer album is based loosely on the big band chart by Chuck Dotas. It features alto and tenor saxophones and contains a soli section with two-line counterpoint, doubled in the saxophones. The new lyric written by Marsh speaks of the human intellectual search for knowledge and understanding. Works well as an opener or closer.

KERRY MARSH is the Director of Vocal Jazz at California State University, Sacramento. He received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas. He was the director of the UNT Jazz Singers II and sang in the UNT Jazz Singers under the direction of Paris Rutherford. He also sang for six years in the University of Kansas choirs under the direction of Simon Carrington, a founding member of the acclaimed King's Singers. Kerry was the winner of a 2003 Down Beat Student Music Award for Best College Jazz Arrangement. Marsh is an active vocal jazz clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States; and is a member of IAJE and ASCAP.
