DEWEY • BIG BAND CHART comp. Jeff Coffin / arr. Michael Jenner Difficulty Level: IV Trumpet Range: F6. Parts Included: full score, 5 saxes, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, piano, bass, drums, guitar.
This tune was written by Jeff Coffin in homage to the late great saxophonist, Dewey Redman. A fantastic arrangement by New Orleans saxophonist and educator, Michael Jenner, this has a beautiful rubato melody that might remind you of a Charlie Haden tune or a timeless folk melody. A melodic and singable sax soli brings even more warmth and depth to this chart and easy blowing changes (I to IV in Eb concert) allows every player to improvise if they want to solo. This tune and chart both have lots of personality and character and it’s both a player and crowd pleaser.
Dewey can be heard on Jeff Coffin's solo recording GO ROUND on Ear Up Records.
