(Level IV) Don Quixote, composed by Brazilian singer/songwriter Milton Nascimento, features a beautiful haunting melody that works well as a trombone feature. The arrangement starts out in a dark, brooding mood (with some hints of Gil Evans) and eventually transforms into a brighter second section culminating in an exciting peak before a brief return to the beginning section. The improvised sections are in the trombone part, but could easily be distributed to other soloists. Don Quixote is a unique contemporary composition with roots in the Brazilian tradition and will be enjoyed by both performers and audience. 8 Brass
