(Level IV) Colors Of Joy, arranged Mike Dana is Brazilian composer Dori Caymmi’s song. Caymmi's unique
melodic and harmonic surprises, are a favorite of jazz performers. Colors Of
Joy, recorded on Caymmi’s “Brazilian Serenata” CD, is one of his lesser-known
(but most charming) pieces. It’s a medium up-tempo samba in 3. After a drums
and percussion intro, the verses and bridge are stated simply. There are two
open solo sections, for percussion and either instrumental or vocal. The vocal
parts are fairly easy, using two-part writing up until the last verse, which is
SATB. This chart works nicely for high school or college level groups. The
master rhythm section part includes fully notated piano and bass parts, along
with chord symbols. SATB with
rhythm section. View all charts by Mike Dana
