(Level 4) This Kern/Hammerstein classic is always in demand. This chart is fairly difficult and demands extreme versatility in vocal approach. Three sections exist. The first is an a cappella, four-part, reharmonized mania of the full form. The second section is reminiscent of Swingle Singers approach. The third section is big band influenced and must be kicked like a true horn section. The piece ends with a piano solo and rousing shout chorus incorporating all elements of the arrangement. SHARON BROADLEY was the lead vocalist and principal composer/arranger for the Boston-based vocal group, The Ritz. She has performed at the Sea-Jazz Festival in Helsinki, the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada, the Newport Jazz Festival in Madarao, Japan and the Jazz A Vienne Festival with the Count Basie Orchestra in France to name a few. Sharon has recorded six albums: Flying (1989), The Spirit of Christmas (1989), Movin' Up (1988), The Ritz-Live to Two Trac (1987), Born to Bop (1985) and Steppin' Out (1984). She was a featured clinician at the 1985 NAJE Convention in Atlanta, Georgia and has since been adjudicating and preparing fresh, exciting material for clinics around the country.
