JEFF BENEDICT is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at California State University-Los Angeles. He hold Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degrees from the Lamont School of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. He is an accomplished jazz performer, currently performing in the Los Angeles area with his own quartet and with the HMA Salsa Jazz Orchestra. He has recorded two albums under his own name on the Resurgent Music record label entitled Castle Creek Shuffle and Standard Fare. Benedict has performed with many jazz artists including Toshiko Akiyoshi, Randy Brecker, Nick Brignola, Eddie Daniels, Carl Fontana, Curtis Fuller, Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, Hubert Laws. Wynton Marsalis, Bob Mintzer, Claudio Roditi, Diane Schuur, Lew Soloff, Billy Taylor, Mel Torme, Bill Watours Mark Whitfield and Joe Williams. He is also in demand as a classical recitalist and clinician and has premiered new works for the saxophone including the world premier of Peter Terry's Into Light for saxophone, chamber orchestra and computer-generated tape and the mid-west premiere of David Amram's Ode to Lord Buckley for saxophone and orchestra. He has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pacific Symphony, the Aspen Festival Orchestra and the Tanglewood Fellowship Orchestra. Mr. Benedict is the winner for four "deebee" awards from downbeat Magazine--one for classical performance, one for jazz composition and two for jazz performance.
