Description About the Composer

(Level V) Blues, quarter note = 112. Commissioned by the Rob Parton JazzTech Big Band for its debut compact disk (Sea Breeze SB CD-112), this Monk-ish blues begins with open piano and bass solos. Flute and muted trumpet carry the tune over a two-feel, repeated by the trombones as the ensemble answers. A four-voice trumpet soli swings into an open trombone solo. Backgrounds build to a shout, the piano recaps the quirky melody, and the band tags it to end. If you've got the players, this chart will excite the blues groove of your band. Alto I doubles on flute. 8 Brass
