(Level IV) Features alto sax. The solo part of the ballad's first chorus would be most effective in a bluesy, David Sanborn style. Second chorus offers blowing space with a double-time, hip-hop feel.  The wind parts are relatively easy, although some of the double-time/hip-hop figures require careful counting.  This chart is playable with five brass and four saxes. 9 Brass

BENNETT FRIEDMAN has been producing big band charts and playing tenor sax in San Francisco jazz venues since the 1960's. Bennett's Variations on a Brazilian Song continues its popularity with California bands. Organizations for which Bennett has written commissioned works include the International Association of Jazz Educators, the University of California and many colleges. Friedman has been a full-time jazz instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College since 1977. He has appeared at the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Stanford Jazz Festival. Bennett often performs and records with Bay Area groups.
