LEE W. BRADFORD grew up in a musical family starting trumpet and piano in the 5th grade and continuing with trumpet through high school. He attended Mount Hood Community College and joined the jazz band. He studied with Larry mcVey and began transcribing the big band sounds of Don Ellis, Buddy Rich, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis and others for the band. In 1970, the Mount Hood Band went to the University of Illinois as one of the six national finalists performing Mr. Bradford's transcription of Thad Jones' Fingers among others. He has played and arraanged music in many different settings from salsa to Elvis impersonators but his favorite band was the one he co-founded with Gary Hobbs in 1988 called The Kicks Band which was organized to perform and record local musicians' works. In 1989 the band made their first recording and the arrangemnt Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah won a National Public Radio Award. Mr. Bradford is currently channeling his energies into writing and arranging.
