(8 Brass) As a tribute to a cat with serious equilibrium problems, this medium-swing blues tune features a simple yet rhythmically interesting melody and programs equally well as an opener or in the middle of a set. The arrangement is for eight brass, five saxes (no doubles) and rhythm section (drums, bass, guitar and piano). There are solo changes in all the parts and the rhythm section parts have lots of written notes as well as chord symbols to accommodate various skill levels.

DR. GREGG AKKERMAN is Director of Jazz Studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate where he leads the jazz ensembles and teaches jazz history, improvisation, jazz theory, music business and jazz piano. Gregg earned his Doctor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition with a Secondary Emphasis in Jazz Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado while both his BA and MM degrees were earned from San Diego State University. Gregg has long performed as a professional keyboardist, sharing the stage with artists such as Bob Brookmeyer, Kenny Burrell, Kevin Mahogany, Byron Stripling, Pete Christlieb, Tiger Okoshi and the Chieftains. An active arranger, composer and educator, Gregg has several works published by UNC Jazz Press and his articles have appeared in the Jazz Education Journal.
