Clair de Lune (SC-2), by Ward Swingle
(C. Debussy) (Level 4) SSAATTBB a cappella. This is a fairly literal vocal transcription of Debussy's famous piano piece. The tessituras are quite wide ranging from low D-flats for the basses to high B-flats for the sopranos. It is probably best sung with the help of microphones.

Air - Suite in E Major (GB-1), by Ward Swingle
(G. F. Handel) (Level 4) SATB, bass & drums. Handel wrote variations on this "air," popularly called "The Harmonious Blacksmith." The theme itself is sung a cappella, then each variation gathers in speed and intensity.

Le Marche de Limoges - Pictures at an Exhibition (GR-4), by Ward Swingle
(M. Moussorgsky) (Level 4) SATB, bass and drums. In this piece, one of his "Pictures at an Exhibtion," Moussorgsky imitates a crowded marketplace by means of constantly changing harmonies and meters. It sounds very modern for a work composed inthe middle of the 19th Century.

Rondo - "LeCoucou" (RG-7), by Ward Swingle
(C. Daquin) (Level 4) SATB, bass and drums. In this arrangement the fast moving notes of Daquin's famous harpsichord piece are fairly evenly distributed among the voices. As always, I have strived to be as faithful to the original as possible. Unfortunately, this often increases the difficulty.

Fugue in D Minor - Art of the Fugue (BGH-6), by Ward Swingle
(Level 4) J. S. Bach. SATB, bass & drums. Taken from Bach's "Art of the Fugue", this was the first track of the Swingle Singers' first recording. It is a double fugue of great complexity and moves along at a fast pace. As you can imagine, we were quite surprised when we began to hear it on readio broadcasts around the world.

Prelude in C Major - Well-Tempered Clavichord Bk 2 (BGH-10), by Ward Swingle
(Level 4) J. S. Bach. SATB, bass & drums. Another Prelude from the "Well-Tempered Clavichord" (Book 2), this one is sung with "oo" sounds, giving a rather mysterious feeling. The sopranos have the most difficult part, with some tricky intervals and a rather wide tessitura (up to high A's).

Rondala Aragonesa (SOS-3), by Ward Swingle
(E. Granados) (Level 4) SSATTBB, bass and drums. In this arrangement, as in most of the others in this series, I've tried to make a fusion of Spanish and Jazz elements. Actually, I find that the two styles mix quite easily.

Blue Rondo a la Turk (SJ-3), by Ward Swingle
(Brubeck/Jarreau) (Level 4) SSAATTBB a cappella. Al Jarreau wrote some wonderefully "onomatopaeic" words for Brubeck's fine piano piece. I've transcribed the piano part as faithfully as possible for voices.

Saints Fugue (SJ-2), by Ward Swingle
(anon.) (Level 4) SSAATTBB a cappella with optional bass and drums. This fugue was first written for my French group in the early 70's using only scat syllables. I revised it later adding the traditional words. There are optional drum and bass parts available. Frankly, I think it works better with the rhythm section.

It's All Right With Me (SS-6), by Ward Swingle
(Cole Porter) SSAATTBB a cappella. In this arrangement I've tried to evoke a female jazz soloist accompanied by a big band. The tempo is quite fast and the men singing the bass and drum parts have the responsibility of keeping a good, solid tempo.

When I'm 64 (SS-4), by Ward Swingle
(Lennon/McCartney) SSAATTBB a cappella. This is a new Swingle Music release. It's a "recreation" of the Beatles' recording using voices to imitate the original instruments: Guitar, bass, drums and various synthesizer sounds.

Fugue - KV 402 (AFM-9), by Ward Swingle
(W. A. Mozart) (Level 4) SATB, bass and drums. This Fugue is taken from Mozart's Sonata for Violin and Piano KV 402. It's a remarkable demonstration of Mozart's ability to write a long, intricate fugue, inspired by Bach, but not an imitation. My singers have always found that Mozart's instrumental pieces are more "singable" than Bach's.

Rondo - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (AFM-7), by Ward Swingle
(W. A. Mozart) (Level 4) SATB, bass and drums. The "Rondo" is the fourth and hardest movement of "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik." It's a good exercise in fast, intricate scat singing.
