Your Cent, by Tyler Gilmore
(Level IV) One of Tyler's most popular pieces! A great piece for high school or college big band. Works great as an opener, no doubles. This piece will challenge your band as the key to its performance is patiently letting the energy build. Past winner of the 2008 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer’s Award and the winning entry for 2009 ASCAP/Columbia College Commission in Honor of Hank Jones. Can be heard on Ninth+Lincoln’s debut CD, "Ninth+Lincoln" (8 brass)View all charts by Tyler Gilmore

That Old Black Magic, by Kerry Marsh
This arrangement of the Harold Arlen/Johnny Mercer standard was commissioned by Irving McArthur HS (TX) and has the kind of aggressive reharmonization and interesting groove ideas with accessible voice-leading for which Marsh has earned a reputation. The chart uses a mix of afro-cuban 6/8 feel and double-time swing. A vamping hook at the beginning, middle and end makes it memorable to your audience and a blast for the group. There is also plenty of solo space over newly composed minor changes that invite singers to improvise with greater ease; and backgrounds that bring on more intensity and excitement. This arrangement works equally well as an opener or closer for your set. SSATB with rhythm section.View all charts by Kerry Marsh
