Sleazy Rider, by Jim Olsen

(8 Brass) (Level 4) The greasiest!! This severely altered blues is just the ticket for getting down and dirty. The slow 12/8 feel takes you right back to Chicago, eventhough the changes sound more like the Art Ensemble than Muddy Waters. There are solos for bari and alto saxes and trumpet, but anyone can blow on this one. Not hard, just lots of fun. As heard on the CD, Fragments. No doubles.

Karen And Norman, by Jack Cooper
(8 Brass) Recorded by the California State University Los Angeles Jazz Ensemble. Easy-swinging tempo tune that is reminiscent of Hancock's Dolphin Dance. The chart is arranged in a very hard-swinging Thad Jones sort of style. Bari sax soloist is a change from the norm. Tenor sax solo gives way to hard-hitting shout that can show off the drummer and the lead trumpet player without making him or her sound too high.

Reverse Peephole, Scott Arcangel

(Level IV) Reverse Peephole, by Scott Arcangel. A curious, lyrical melody over a unique set of chord changes that flows naturally, but not predictably over a slow straight-eighth jazz feel.  Flugelhorn, baritone saxophone & guitar share the melody as well as the solo space.  Alto 1 doubles on flute.  Lead trumpet up to high F.  Recorded by the West Point Band’s Jazz Knights on the CD Commissions 2006. (8 Brass)
